COMMUNIQUÉ...
STUDENTS UNION GOVERNMENT(UNEC)

To all medical and paramedical student in school!!
It pleases me to let us know that the PRESIDENT of the union, (Comr.Ilogebe Chidi) has given me orders to tell all of you to remain calm and peaceful as regards the notice that went viral this evening from the student affairs department.

In his words; " Mr. PRO, please tell the students that on no account should they leave the hostels till we have asked them to do so. We are not animals that should be pushed around. 24hrs evacuation notice is so unlike it"

On this note, please kindly disregard the notice from the students affairs department. But we should gear up for further directives by Monday from the president. Albeit, let's not be in a haste to forget that this is a new session and there is bound to be reshuffling. The males should be ready to vacate the female hostels..

This is but, a temporary solution. The SUG is poised to serve you better. God bless you.

STUDENTS' UNION GOVERNMENT

PRESS RELEASE                       29-06-2015

Fellow Lions and Lionesses,
In the spirit of a new and blessed week, we bring you greetings. We want to  thank God for a very wonderful weekend and also thank our amiable Vice-chancellor, Prof. Chukwuma Ozumba for his efforts so far channeled towards improving students welfare. This is very evident in the constant power supply we have been receiving since after our break and also, the water project that was completed over the weekend. We are much delighted and very grateful with this development. The VC has shown responsiveness towards matters that primarily concern students welfarism,  and we are proud of him. Ndi Igbo siri na  " eto dike na nke omere, ome òzó." We encourage him to do more.
For those of us that are not aware, the most basic needs of students this government promised have been provided. These needs include; constant power supply, availability of clean water, students I.D cards, security, e.t.c. In one of our press releases we enjoined students not to be antsy as all hands were being placed on deck to ensure improved welfarism.
we  want students to inspire others by providing write ups for the upcoming SUG publications: UNEC DIGEST......On de way watch out!.....submit submission for digest ends on Friday( 3-07-2015) hurry now!
Talking about the water project, the works department is through with the pipe fixing and water has started running evidently. Now, it should be on record that any day water does not run, we should all know that the problem is not internal(from school) rather it is from the Enugu state water corporation. We have been given the tickets to enjoy perpetual supply of water till we graduate, courtesy of the VC, prof Ozumba and the SUG 2014/2015 led by Comr. Ilogebe.
For those of us that haven't gotten the news of the bio-data collection for our ID card production, please, we will state once more; go to ICT beside Access bank PLC and submit your details.
Environmental sciences- Monday
Law- Tuesday
Business Administration- Wednesday
Medical sciences- Thursday
Health sciences and dentistry- Friday
We specially thank the security department for tightening up security within campus. We haven't received any complaint since resumption. This goes a long way to show that everybody is working, both the school Administration and the SUG. Your prayers is still the only key to the success of us all.
we felicitate with our beloved associations, LAWSA,NUAMBS & NUASA as their students' week commences today. The SUG is fully in support of their programs. Students should feel free to participate in their activities so as to foster stronger association ties and in the end, UNEC shall be ONE.

Ex-Scientologist Carmen Llywelyn Pens Revealing Essay About the church and Ex Jason L

Taryn Rydle,Another one of Scientology's ex-famous members is speaking out against the church.

Carmen Llywelyn, who had roles in Never Been Kissed and The Mod Squad and was once married to actor Jason Lee, recently penned an essay for Gawker titled, "Why I Left Scientology." In it, she makes harsh accusations against the church and her ex-husband.

Llywelyn, 41, was a Scientologist for eight years. "I've spent the last 13 years keeping Scientology out of my life," she begins. "It hasn’t been easy, but I've realized that the religion is built on a foundation of violence. I'm proud to add my voice to the many who, despite fear of retribution and humiliation, have come forward to tell of our experiences."
Gun Control Opinion Poll
TheRightToBear.com

Lee is the one who introduced Carmen to the church. They got married in 1995 after one year of dating. At the time, the My Name is Earl actor had been a Scientologist for five years.

"When I think back, I believe a part of me knew if I didn’t accept Scientology the marriage would be over before it even started," she writes. "But in truth, regardless of how different I feel about Jason and Scientology today, I was very much in love with the guy and wanted our marriage to work. I did what I thought was right. But I made the mistake of immersing myself completely in his world. I did what so many other people who join Scientology do: I lost all sense of individual identity in the name of the cult."

After an unusual tour of Scientology's Celebrity Centre in L.A. — including a stop by founder L. Ron Hubbard’s office, which was set up perfectly for when he comes back in another lifetime — Carmen joined Scientology. "As we kept going, it occurred to me how unreal and expensive Scientology was going to be," she shares, estimating that her involvement with the church cost her around $50,000 over the eight years she was a member. "To me, Scientology seemed more of a surreal lifestyle for the privileged than a kind of belief system."

According to Llywelyn, the church is also not an easy place to make friends. "You’d never think that speaking your mind could get you in that much trouble, but if you knew what the average Scientologist’s perspective was on friendships you’d understand," she says. "It becomes a lonely world… In Scientology, your friend can become your worst enemy overnight."

Carmen said her Scientologist pals, like Jenna Elfman and Gay Ribisi, became her "faux friends."

When Carmen ran into Elfman shortly after she left the church, "[Jenna] didn’t ask me how I was. She didn’t wish me well or ask me about my life… I was just supposed to listen to her while she lectured me in that tone-40 type of voice and told me I needed to get back on 'the bridge'... It was a very cold encounter."

Carmen was labeled a "suppressive person" after she read the book A Piece of Blue Sky that opposed the church's beliefs.

"Most people know the only view you'll see of any Scientologist once they disconnect from you will be their backs," she notes. "Before I was disconnected with him, I still got along with Jason as long as I agreed with his and the church’s demands. But when I revealed over the telephone to my talent manager, Gay Ribisi, that I’d read an anti-Scientology book, it started the chain of events that led to me being disconnected with everyone I had known."

After that, Carmen says she lost Jason, all of her friends, and Gay, who allegedly got United Talent Agency to drop her. She claims Jason disconnected with her in a one paragraph letter, ending "in the same meaningless way and insinuated the same serious things."

"Scientologists have no boundaries and their cruelties exclude no one," she says. "There are no choices in Scientology. There never were. It is all a ruse. In truth, after I left Scientology, I had to learn how to think for myself again, to speak for myself again. It’s very different from the language Scien

FAMILIES BESIEGE MORTUARY IN SEARCH OF 12 DEAD OGUN VARSITY STUDENTS

It was a   hectic task   for workers of   Olabisi Onabanjo Teaching Hospital, Sagamu to control the crowd   as families and friends of some students of Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, who lost their lives on the Sagamu-Benin Expressway, on Friday, besieged the   hospital in search of them.
No fewer than 12 persons lost their lives when a container from a truck fell on a 14-seater commercial bus they were travelling in from Ago-Iwoye to Lagos State.
Sunday Vanguard gathered that some   relatives were  told by the hospital authorities that the bodies were not deposited at their morgue as reported by some media outfits.
A senior staff of the hospital, who craved for anonymity, noted that grieving family members of the victims were directed to comb private morgues within the town, saying information at his disposal had it that some bodies of  victims were deposited at a private hospital mortuary.
It was   further gathered that the university’s Head of Students Affairs,Professor Lekan Arikewuyo,  and the Chief Security Officer, Mr. Rasheed  Adekunle, were, early yesterday morning, in search of private morgues were the bodies of the victims of the accident were deposited.

SUG FUTO PRESS RELEASE

On Friday, 26th June 2015,the FUTO students society of journalist #fssj held her 2nd general meeting with great aplomb.

Correspondences from various quarters of the students world were there in the SUG Secretariat were they sat and deliberated on various events that has beclouded the university with particular reference to the Students Union government.

::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

First was news update and #fssj reporters had the following updates;

* The Late DVC of academics Prof B. N Onwuagba has since been interred and though the school is in mourning mood, life has progressed. When students in SOSC were confronted with the issue, they expressed their condolences but showed little sign of sincerely missing the Late Academician.

*The university currently has many departments undergoing accreditation. As at the time of filling this report we gathered that MCB has failed accreditation while PHT succeeded and is now known as department of Public Health, this also implies that their graduate will receive a Bsc certificate instead of Btech obtainable in other departments. More news coming shortly on accreditation.

*Hostel cleaners went on strike a few weeks back. This provoked a near squalid living condition in our various in-campus residences. While speaking with one of the cleaners who spoke to our correspondent on condition of anonymity, she lividly expressed displeasure at how their payment is delayed. She even claimed that she suspects some persons are using her salary to enrich themselves. The condition of the hostel thus caused exodus from the hostel while fostering cohabitation, a norm we kick against.

*Security operatives in partnership with  Man O war caught and arrested over 25 persons who are alleged to be about to be initiated into an unknown cult group in FUTO road. The #fssj director, Comr Ositadinma Evaristus confirmed this information from the MOW commander, Patriot Unanka Bright who adviced students to face their studies squarely.

*Unilever Nigeria PLC will hold a CSR program in 1000cap on July 1st. According to comrade Ernest Mascot, the school of health PRO and an SUG PRO aspirant, the program will reposition entrepreneural spirit amongst students.

*The official memo for institution of an independent students electoral commission has been released by the Dean of students affairs,Prof M. C Offoh. As at press time almost all department and levels have ISEC representative except for SOHT where there appears to be a case of alleged manipulation of the ISEC electoral process.

*SOSC has now been officially split in two. These two group are the school of physical science were all ancillary sciences can be found and the school of biological science which include all biological courses.

*The SUG PRO and the In house committee chairman on Publicity Hon. @[100000449043059:King-Nkem Ekechukwu Blinks] launched a bid to provide identity cards for all matriculated students. This came as a result of outcry of students who are harassed and denied many opportunities because of lack of credible identification.

There was also great criticisms about the state of the Union and the various sectors of the Aluta Change.

These and many more updates shortly. Please kindly join us on FUTO news online on Facebook and let's keep ourselves informed.

In our native language, we say 'nnöö' (welcome) to you all once more.
As we have returned,  we all must have taken cognizance of some changes in the campus.
First, the access bank ATM at manuwa bus stop has bin fixed but is still nonfunctional at the moment because it is a new machine and is still being synchronized by a software engineer. Speaking with the bank manager, he assured that the machines will be ready for use in about a month time, WE beseech us to be patient till this has being fixed.
On LIGHT, we made sure that there is constant supply of power in school albeit the spark that was experienced from one of the source poles. We ensured that enough pressure was mounted on EEDC via the Director of works so that the problem be fixed within 24hrs.. The school Gen. hasnt being in use for some reasons, though we are pressurizing to see if it will be put on today. But in a situation where it is not put on, let us all not be antsy because everything is under control with the assurance that by Monday everything will be fine. There won't be any issue of rationing again.
In the same vein, on transportation, after an embittered word battle between the shuttle drivers association and the Union, it was agreed that the price of shuttle will go down to #20 starting from Monday. Although the fact that things are not inexpensive in the country and that the economy has gone bad was also considered, but we fought gallantly to see to the reduction of the transport fare. Students are urged to have their #20 handy whenever they want to use the shuttle service (with effect from Monday).
Not forgetting our academics, as promised earlier, the Union through the school administration has eventually succeeded in shifting the examination time by 4weeks, all thanks to prof. Ozumba, our amiable VC. Students are adviced to study hard to show themselves approved.
Not leaving God apart, join us as we praise and worship God in spirit and truth cum June 29th and 30th. This super event features guest music ministers such as; samsong, frekke, clarkson and others, and also pastor Ekwueme and apostle Ben Ikpefan. We just can't miss out on this! It is proudly brought to you by JCCB and SUG, UNEC. NB: The youth friendly center is bringing Frank Edwards and others on the 26th June at ekpo ref, UNN. The school is providing two coaster busses for the event for those who are interested. We also need two persons that will represent us in a Bible quiz competition over there. Contact us if there is an interest.
On the social platform, all hands should be on deck as the SUG brings Kiss Daniels/Orezi on the 17th July. This event is fully powered by Mind + swag entertainment. Its an event we can't miss out on. The DOS will brief us more on that as it approaches.
In contrast, we are still working on the issue of  banned alcohol and bad roads in UNEC. Definite solutions haven't being attracted yet. We want to use this medium to apologize as we shift our SUG week to next semester. It has always been in our mind to host the 0'15 set to a beffiting dinner/sendforth/award night. Be it as it may, we will try our best to make it up to them.
Coming up soon: Commissioning of the newly constructed bus stop. Gracias!

UK ELECTION

Mhairi Black, the freshly elected lawmaker from Scotland, will soon be heading down from her constituency of Paisley and Renfrewshire South to Westminster. But she has an immediate challenge ahead of her: getting her university degree.

Black is all of 20 years old. And Friday, she made history by becoming the youngest lawmaker in UK history since the 17th century.

Here's what you need to know about the Scot who came from behind and shook the political landscape.

She toppled a political heavyweight
As member of the Scottish Nationalist Party (the SNP), she went up against Douglas Alexander, a long-time Labour Party heavy-hitter. He is a former Cabinet minister and such a shrewd veteran of political campaigns that he was Labour's campaign chief.

He is also a member of the shadow cabinet -- the group of politicians from the opposition party who would head up ministries if in power. If he had been elected, and had Labour come to power, he would have become the new foreign secretary, a position similar to the Secretary of State in the U.S.

But in the end, her 23,548 votes outstripped her opponent -- Alexander ended the night with 17,864 votes -- overturning the veteran's huge majority from the 2010 general election. Alexander has represented the area since 1997, and today marks the first time for 70 years that the constituency has not been a Labour seat.

She's the youngest MP since 1667
In 1667, after being "returned as knight of the shire," Christopher Monck took his place in Parliament when he was just 13.

Sure, there have been other young parliamentarians, but none as young as Black -- in the last 350 years.

Most recently, former Liberal Democrat leader Charles Kennedy was elected into Westminster at the tender age of 23. But he was three years older than Black is now.

She was into politics even as a kid
Black grew up in Paisley, a working class town in the west of Scotland. From a young age, she would march for causes as diverse as support for a Scottish parliament and opposition to the Iraq war.

She was a vocal supporter of Scottish independence during last year's referendum campaign. She says that she "witnessed first hand the level of poverty and injustice prevalent in our society," touring some of the country's most deprived areas.

The referendum campaign failed, but a passionate, fiery and intelligent campaigner was born.

"Over the two years of that referendum campaign it was a political awakening," she told CNN's Phil Black. "It forced people to engage and think about arguments and try and articulate arguments and look for quality."

She's drawn fire for some of her tweets
A season ticket holder and lifelong fan of her local football club, Partick Thistle, Black has occasionally let her soccer tribalism get the better of her.

During one match against perennial Scottish champions Celtic in October 2013, she tweeted: "I've only just realised -- I really f***** hate Celtic" and "Celtic, yer a joke! #scum."

And like many other Scottish students she's also used social media to boast about her drinking. She tweeted her love of Smirnoff Ice, calling it the "nectar of the gods." She also tweeted about waking up next to a can of beer and a pizza, calling it "a success."

Like a novice, the tweets remained undeleted until after her selection -- at least until the media managed to get hold of screen grabs.

The SNP defended her selection as a candidate, saying, "Mhairi is a dedicated young woman who learned a great deal during the referendum, and wants to do her best for her community as its MP."

She's changed her tune
These slip-ups, along with a speech where she seemed to suggest a desire to physically assault opponents to the referendum, threatened to derail her freshman campaign.

After the referendum result had come in, she told a pro-independence rally that her political opponents' apparently insincere commiserations had made her want to put "the nut on" -- head-butt -- them. She also called unionists "selfish" and "gullible."

Comments like these put pressure on SNP leader Nicola Sturgeon to deselect her

“We are very proud of this upcoming transfer, which came in a huge momentum,” said Brands. “Memphis has gone through all the teams of the PSV youth academy and has played an important part in the national title this year. He’s a wonderful exponent of our training and will make a nice transition to a magnificent club in a beautiful competition. We obviously lose a fantastic player, which is of great value to the team.”

A statement on the Manchester United website also confirmed the transfer. “Manchester United has reached agreement with PSV Eindhoven and Memphis Depay for the player’s transfer, subject to a medical, once the transfer window opens in June.”

Depay, who has scored 49 goals in 122 appearances for the Dutch club as well as scoring twice during last year’s World Cup in Brazil – he is the youngest Dutchman ever to do so in the competition – has long been viewed as one of the hottest properties around Europe and securing his signature will be seen as a scoop for Louis van Gaal and the club.

The rest of the PSV Eindhoven squad were informed of the 21-year-old’s deal at training by their manager, Phillip Cocu. Once the move is completed Depay will become the fourth player to move from PSV to United following in the footsteps of Jaap Stam, Ruud van Nistelrooy and Park Ji-sung.

Move on dear

5 Ways To Know It's Time To Move On
 Oct 30, 2014 | Updated Dec 30, 2014
James Russell Lingerfelt Author, 'The Mason Jar'

When blinded by our infatuation (which can last anywhere on average from three months to two years), it's impossible to look at our relationship objectively. We might dwell on their positive attributes at all times and make excuses for them when they behave badly.
We desperately want it to work out and cling to any glimmer of hope that things are heading in the right direction. When something looks like a bad sign, we might ignore it and place even more weight and significance on the good things.
Having an optimistic approach to dating isn't necessarily a bad thing. It only becomes problematic when we can no longer see a situation for what it truly is and recognize when it's time to walk away.
To help us get this clarity, here are five ways to know it's time to move on:
1. Do they like who you are right now?
Do they accept you for who you are, or are they trying to change you? If they're constantly pointing out your flaws and faults, they don't love you for who you are right now. Instead, they make you feel like you're not "good enough" and you become consumed with the desire to prove that you are.
Their validation makes you feel like you're worthy of love. And their disapproval makes you feel like you need to work even harder to be worthy.
You have family and friends in your life who believe you're freaking awesome. Listen to them rather than people who don't truly know you.
MORE: 10 Things Confident People Do Differently in Relationship
2. Do they mistreat you but say they love you?
What are their actions over long periods of time? My grandfather taught me, "Don't pay attention to what people say. Pay attention to what they do."
In my experience, people say a lot depending on their views or emotions at that given time and place.
If they say they love you but don't like spending time with you unless you're doing them favors... they don't value you as much as the loved ones you already have in your life.
Try to look at the entire picture, not just the bits and pieces that align with the outcome you're hoping for.
3. Are you placing effort to convince them to love you more?
You feel like you're the only one trying in the relationship. What happened to meeting each other in the middle?
When my dad and brother married, they said loving and marrying their wives was a very natural progression. They never had to perform for her or try to talk her into anything. The love and respect with their women was mutual and it blossomed naturally.
If you're forcing everything or if you give and give, and they take and take, it's a sign that this isn't the right relationship. Great relationships progress without force. If you find yourself doing things in order to win their love, then they probably aren't the right match for you.
I'm sure there are other people  in your life who deeply love you. Can you make better use of your time and energy investing into their lives?
QUIZ: Does He Really Love Me?
4. Do they value your charm and physical beauty more than your character?
Our charm comes in spurts and our physical beauty fades. At the end of the day, are they able to get enough of you? Are you able to get enough of them? That helps us discern "attraction to image" versus "attraction to person."
Our charm comes in spurts and our physical beauty fades. At the end of the day, do they truly "get" you? And do you truly "get" them?  Do they see the real you and vice versa? Do you each appreciate who the other one is deep down, beyond the surface exterior?  These questions help us discern "attraction to image" versus "attraction to person," so answer them thoughtfully and honestly.
5. Is he or she looking for what's next and better?
If they're always looking for someone they think could be a better fit, or if they don't want to be seen in public with you... that's a clear sign to get out.
You can find a better fit for yourself than someone who treats you bad.

Wonders shall never end(woman murdered by houseboy)

Agnes Elue: killed by house boy

A 65-year-old woman, Mrs Agnes Elue has been murdered in cold blood by her male house boy, a teenager.
Police spokesman in Enugu state, Mr Ebere Amaraizu, on Wednesday said the deceased was hacked down with a pestle after she requested for the proper accounts of the sales made by the suspect, Joseph Ijeh, in her shop.

“The deceased, a proprietress of a bar, was allegedly killed by her manservant.

“The suspect escaped, leaving the dead body inside one of the rooms for some days before it was discovered and reported to police operatives,” it said.

Amaraizu said the suspect upon his arrest confessed to the crime.

“The suspect revealed that the request for him to render account by his mistress angered him.

“While the woman was waiting in the sitting room for the account to be rendered, the suspect hit her with pestle which caused her death,” he said.

Amaraizu said the same house boy went to a widow’s flat in the same compound and attempted to rape her.

He had gone to the widow demanding N2000 from her but before the widow could reply, he pounced on her and was stripping her when the alarm raised by the widow attracted the attention of the caretaker of the compound.

The caretaker promptly rushed to her rescue and dealt several blows on the boy while the widow also hit the boy with a pestle.

It was at this stage that people rushed and arrested the boy. He was taken upstairs to ‎report to his madam only to discover her decomposing body in her bedroom.

The police are not ruling out rape since the body of the woman was without clothes when it was found.

Elue was also an academic staff of the Federal Government College, Enugu‎ before her death. She was popularly known as “Nwanyi Maluogo” by neighbours because of her kind disposition.

Lagos says holiday jobs for pupils cost N100m

MAY 7, 2015 : SESAN OLUFOWOBI
2 Comments
The Lagos State Government says it spent N100m on payment of stipends to 5,000 fresh secondary school leavers employed for two months for the state government’s job initiative aimed at engaging some older pupils during the long holidays.

The Lagos State Head of Service, Mrs. Shade Jaji, said this during a press briefing on Tuesday in Alausa, Ikeja.

The initiative was tagged, ‘Vacation Job for Secondary School Leavers Programme.’

Jaji noted that the 5,000 vacation workers received N10,000 stipends for each of the two months they were engaged.

She said the initiative was meant to inculcate core values, such as dignity of labour and work ethics, in the pupils.

She said, “I am elated to place on record the Babatunde Fashola administration’s consistency with the Vacation Job for Secondary School Leavers Programme on annual basis. The office of the Head of Service, between the months of August and September 2014, engaged 5,000 secondary school leavers in the scheme.

“The vacation workers, who received monthly stipends of N10,000 each for the two months, were sent to MDAs, parastatals, local government and local council development areas in the state to experience what working life entails, and more importantly, to appreciate the dignity of labour and imbibe the core values and work ethics in the public service.

“Also, part of the programme is to ensure that youths were meaningfully engaged during the long holiday and were able to earn some income during the period.”

The Head of Service also said the Staff Housing Board, an arm of the Head of Service office, granted housing loans to the tune of N94, 341, 740.00 to civil servants in the state.

She said, “The Staff Housing Board has continued to, within available resources, satisfy the housing needs of workers, either through the granting of loan advances to staff for the purpose of purchasing land, building residential houses and renovating existing residential accommodation or through the allocation of available staff quarters.

“I, therefore, wish to inform you that between June 2014 and April 2015, the sum of N94, 341, 740 was disbursed to 551 officers as housing loan facilities.

“The office continued to maintain government staff quarters across the state. The quarters have gone a long way in alleviating accommodation problems of many deserving staff.”
