STUDENTS' UNION GOVERNMENT

PRESS RELEASE                       29-06-2015

Fellow Lions and Lionesses,
In the spirit of a new and blessed week, we bring you greetings. We want to  thank God for a very wonderful weekend and also thank our amiable Vice-chancellor, Prof. Chukwuma Ozumba for his efforts so far channeled towards improving students welfare. This is very evident in the constant power supply we have been receiving since after our break and also, the water project that was completed over the weekend. We are much delighted and very grateful with this development. The VC has shown responsiveness towards matters that primarily concern students welfarism,  and we are proud of him. Ndi Igbo siri na  " eto dike na nke omere, ome òzó." We encourage him to do more.
For those of us that are not aware, the most basic needs of students this government promised have been provided. These needs include; constant power supply, availability of clean water, students I.D cards, security, e.t.c. In one of our press releases we enjoined students not to be antsy as all hands were being placed on deck to ensure improved welfarism.
we  want students to inspire others by providing write ups for the upcoming SUG publications: UNEC DIGEST......On de way watch out!.....submit submission for digest ends on Friday( 3-07-2015) hurry now!
Talking about the water project, the works department is through with the pipe fixing and water has started running evidently. Now, it should be on record that any day water does not run, we should all know that the problem is not internal(from school) rather it is from the Enugu state water corporation. We have been given the tickets to enjoy perpetual supply of water till we graduate, courtesy of the VC, prof Ozumba and the SUG 2014/2015 led by Comr. Ilogebe.
For those of us that haven't gotten the news of the bio-data collection for our ID card production, please, we will state once more; go to ICT beside Access bank PLC and submit your details.
Environmental sciences- Monday
Law- Tuesday
Business Administration- Wednesday
Medical sciences- Thursday
Health sciences and dentistry- Friday
We specially thank the security department for tightening up security within campus. We haven't received any complaint since resumption. This goes a long way to show that everybody is working, both the school Administration and the SUG. Your prayers is still the only key to the success of us all.
we felicitate with our beloved associations, LAWSA,NUAMBS & NUASA as their students' week commences today. The SUG is fully in support of their programs. Students should feel free to participate in their activities so as to foster stronger association ties and in the end, UNEC shall be ONE.
 Gracias!   ALUTA CONTINUA....VICTORIA ASCERTA.....

Ex-Scientologist Carmen Llywelyn Pens Revealing Essay About the church and Ex Jason L

Taryn Rydle,Another one of Scientology's ex-famous members is speaking out against the church.

Carmen Llywelyn, who had roles in Never Been Kissed and The Mod Squad and was once married to actor Jason Lee, recently penned an essay for Gawker titled, "Why I Left Scientology." In it, she makes harsh accusations against the church and her ex-husband.

Llywelyn, 41, was a Scientologist for eight years. "I've spent the last 13 years keeping Scientology out of my life," she begins. "It hasn’t been easy, but I've realized that the religion is built on a foundation of violence. I'm proud to add my voice to the many who, despite fear of retribution and humiliation, have come forward to tell of our experiences."

TheRightToBear.com

Lee is the one who introduced Carmen to the church. They got married in 1995 after one year of dating. At the time, the My Name is Earl actor had been a Scientologist for five years.

"When I think back, I believe a part of me knew if I didn’t accept Scientology the marriage would be over before it even started," she writes. "But in truth, regardless of how different I feel about Jason and Scientology today, I was very much in love with the guy and wanted our marriage to work. I did what I thought was right. But I made the mistake of immersing myself completely in his world. I did what so many other people who join Scientology do: I lost all sense of individual identity in the name of the cult."

After an unusual tour of Scientology's Celebrity Centre in L.A. — including a stop by founder L. Ron Hubbard’s office, which was set up perfectly for when he comes back in another lifetime — Carmen joined Scientology. "As we kept going, it occurred to me how unreal and expensive Scientology was going to be," she shares, estimating that her involvement with the church cost her around $50,000 over the eight years she was a member. "To me, Scientology seemed more of a surreal lifestyle for the privileged than a kind of belief system."

According to Llywelyn, the church is also not an easy place to make friends. "You’d never think that speaking your mind could get you in that much trouble, but if you knew what the average Scientologist’s perspective was on friendships you’d understand," she says. "It becomes a lonely world… In Scientology, your friend can become your worst enemy overnight."

Carmen said her Scientologist pals, like Jenna Elfman and Gay Ribisi, became her "faux friends."

When Carmen ran into Elfman shortly after she left the church, "[Jenna] didn’t ask me how I was. She didn’t wish me well or ask me about my life… I was just supposed to listen to her while she lectured me in that tone-40 type of voice and told me I needed to get back on 'the bridge'... It was a very cold encounter."

Carmen was labeled a "suppressive person" after she read the book A Piece of Blue Sky that opposed the church's beliefs.

"Most people know the only view you'll see of any Scientologist once they disconnect from you will be their backs," she notes. "Before I was disconnected with him, I still got along with Jason as long as I agreed with his and the church’s demands. But when I revealed over the telephone to my talent manager, Gay Ribisi, that I’d read an anti-Scientology book, it started the chain of events that led to me being disconnected with everyone I had known."

After that, Carmen says she lost Jason, all of her friends, and Gay, who allegedly got United Talent Agency to drop her. She claims Jason disconnected with her in a one paragraph letter, ending "in the same meaningless way and insinuated the same serious things."

"Scientologists have no boundaries and their cruelties exclude no one," she says. "There are no choices in Scientology. There never were. It is all a ruse. In truth, after I left Scientology, I had to learn how to think for myself again, to speak for myself again. It’s very different from the language Scien

FAMILIES BESIEGE MORTUARY IN SEARCH OF 12 DEAD OGUN VARSITY STUDENTS

It was a   hectic task   for workers of   Olabisi Onabanjo Teaching Hospital, Sagamu to control the crowd   as families and friends of some students of Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, who lost their lives on the Sagamu-Benin Expressway, on Friday, besieged the   hospital in search of them.
No fewer than 12 persons lost their lives when a container from a truck fell on a 14-seater commercial bus they were travelling in from Ago-Iwoye to Lagos State.
Sunday Vanguard gathered that some   relatives were  told by the hospital authorities that the bodies were not deposited at their morgue as reported by some media outfits.
A senior staff of the hospital, who craved for anonymity, noted that grieving family members of the victims were directed to comb private morgues within the town, saying information at his disposal had it that some bodies of  victims were deposited at a private hospital mortuary.
It was   further gathered that the university’s Head of Students Affairs,Professor Lekan Arikewuyo,  and the Chief Security Officer, Mr. Rasheed  Adekunle, were, early yesterday morning, in search of private morgues were the bodies of the victims of the accident were deposited.

SUG FUTO PRESS RELEASE

On Friday, 26th June 2015,the FUTO students society of journalist #fssj held her 2nd general meeting with great aplomb.

Correspondences from various quarters of the students world were there in the SUG Secretariat were they sat and deliberated on various events that has beclouded the university with particular reference to the Students Union government.

::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

First was news update and #fssj reporters had the following updates;

* The Late DVC of academics Prof B. N Onwuagba has since been interred and though the school is in mourning mood, life has progressed. When students in SOSC were confronted with the issue, they expressed their condolences but showed little sign of sincerely missing the Late Academician.

*The university currently has many departments undergoing accreditation. As at the time of filling this report we gathered that MCB has failed accreditation while PHT succeeded and is now known as department of Public Health, this also implies that their graduate will receive a Bsc certificate instead of Btech obtainable in other departments. More news coming shortly on accreditation.

*Hostel cleaners went on strike a few weeks back. This provoked a near squalid living condition in our various in-campus residences. While speaking with one of the cleaners who spoke to our correspondent on condition of anonymity, she lividly expressed displeasure at how their payment is delayed. She even claimed that she suspects some persons are using her salary to enrich themselves. The condition of the hostel thus caused exodus from the hostel while fostering cohabitation, a norm we kick against.

*Security operatives in partnership with  Man O war caught and arrested over 25 persons who are alleged to be about to be initiated into an unknown cult group in FUTO road. The #fssj director, Comr Ositadinma Evaristus confirmed this information from the MOW commander, Patriot Unanka Bright who adviced students to face their studies squarely.

*Unilever Nigeria PLC will hold a CSR program in 1000cap on July 1st. According to comrade Ernest Mascot, the school of health PRO and an SUG PRO aspirant, the program will reposition entrepreneural spirit amongst students.

*The official memo for institution of an independent students electoral commission has been released by the Dean of students affairs,Prof M. C Offoh. As at press time almost all department and levels have ISEC representative except for SOHT where there appears to be a case of alleged manipulation of the ISEC electoral process.

*SOSC has now been officially split in two. These two group are the school of physical science were all ancillary sciences can be found and the school of biological science which include all biological courses.

*The SUG PRO and the In house committee chairman on Publicity Hon. @[100000449043059:King-Nkem Ekechukwu Blinks] launched a bid to provide identity cards for all matriculated students. This came as a result of outcry of students who are harassed and denied many opportunities because of lack of credible identification.

There was also great criticisms about the state of the Union and the various sectors of the Aluta Change.

These and many more updates shortly. Please kindly join us on FUTO news online on Facebook and let's keep ourselves informed.

SUG PRESS RELEASE

Indomitable lions and lionesses,
In our native language, we say 'nnöö' (welcome) to you all once more.
As we have returned,  we all must have taken cognizance of some changes in the campus.
First, the access bank ATM at manuwa bus stop has bin fixed but is still nonfunctional at the moment because it is a new machine and is still being synchronized by a software engineer. Speaking with the bank manager, he assured that the machines will be ready for use in about a month time, WE beseech us to be patient till this has being fixed.
On LIGHT, we made sure that there is constant supply of power in school albeit the spark that was experienced from one of the source poles. We ensured that enough pressure was mounted on EEDC via the Director of works so that the problem be fixed within 24hrs.. The school Gen. hasnt being in use for some reasons, though we are pressurizing to see if it will be put on today. But in a situation where it is not put on, let us all not be antsy because everything is under control with the assurance that by Monday everything will be fine. There won't be any issue of rationing again.
In the same vein, on transportation, after an embittered word battle between the shuttle drivers association and the Union, it was agreed that the price of shuttle will go down to #20 starting from Monday. Although the fact that things are not inexpensive in the country and that the economy has gone bad was also considered, but we fought gallantly to see to the reduction of the transport fare. Students are urged to have their #20 handy whenever they want to use the shuttle service (with effect from Monday).
Not forgetting our academics, as promised earlier, the Union through the school administration has eventually succeeded in shifting the examination time by 4weeks, all thanks to prof. Ozumba, our amiable VC. Students are adviced to study hard to show themselves approved.
Not leaving God apart, join us as we praise and worship God in spirit and truth cum June 29th and 30th. This super event features guest music ministers such as; samsong, frekke, clarkson and others, and also pastor Ekwueme and apostle Ben Ikpefan. We just can't miss out on this! It is proudly brought to you by JCCB and SUG, UNEC. NB: The youth friendly center is bringing Frank Edwards and others on the 26th June at ekpo ref, UNN. The school is providing two coaster busses for the event for those who are interested. We also need two persons that will represent us in a Bible quiz competition over there. Contact us if there is an interest.
On the social platform, all hands should be on deck as the SUG brings Kiss Daniels/Orezi on the 17th July. This event is fully powered by Mind + swag entertainment. Its an event we can't miss out on. The DOS will brief us more on that as it approaches.
In contrast, we are still working on the issue of  banned alcohol and bad roads in UNEC. Definite solutions haven't being attracted yet. We want to use this medium to apologize as we shift our SUG week to next semester. It has always been in our mind to host the 0'15 set to a beffiting dinner/sendforth/award night. Be it as it may, we will try our best to make it up to them.
Coming up soon: Commissioning of the newly constructed bus stop. Gracias!
